TDW #023: Hack Your Online Presence with a Daily Content Checklist
Creating content: it's easy to get lost in the noise and forget about what's truly important.
With 1,000 different options available to you at any given moment, how do you choose? Long-form, short-form, video, audio, text, design—ACK! It’s a hamster wheel that feels impossible to get off safely.
If you own a business, you already know you need to create content. Consumers expect it. Your competitors are doing it. If you don’t, you’ll get left behind.
But creating content for the sake of creating content is a guaranteed way to waste your time, energy, and money. It’s got to achieve something for both you and your audience:
Audience: your content makes them smarter, richer, or both.
You: grows your influence, builds your brand, and makes you money.
That's why I've created a simple, yet powerful daily content checklist to help you stay focused, achieve your goals, and make the most of your online content.
Here's the daily checklist—nice, clean, and simple:
- Did I publish something?
- Did I engage with others?
- Did I build my list?
- Did I share my offer?
Now let’s take a look at each one in-depth…
Did I publish something?
Objective: Grow your audience
Content creation is the backbone of any winning online marketing strategy. Whether it's a blog post, video, podcast, or social media update, it's crucial to consistently put out new material that captivates and educates your audience.
Publish something every day. Get in the habit. A tweet. A LinkedIn post. A video. Doesn’t matter. Just get something out there.
Think of it like fishing. The more lines you throw out, the more bites you’ll get.
Time required: 10-20 minutes
Did I engage with others?
Objective: Grow your network
If you don’t have time to engage, you don’t have time to grow.
Interaction is just as crucial as content creation. By leaving comments, likes, and responses on others' posts, you'll foster relationships and create a sense of community around your brand.
Time required: 10-12 minutes
Did I build my list?
Objective: Grow your email list
An email list is a highly effective tool to reach your target audience and expand your online following. Utilize opt-in forms on your website, provide free downloads, or host webinars – there are numerous ways to add to your email list and stay connected to your audience.
The goal is to move people from your social media channels. One of my favorite ways to do this is through auto-DMs. Unless you’re Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk, you “rent” your social media audience. But your email list? That’s all yours.
Time required: 5 minutes
Did I share my offer?
Objective: Grow your bank account
It's time to share your offer with your audience. Whether it's a product, service, or information, it's critical to regularly promote it and make it effortless for people to take the next step.
It’s always surprising to take a look at a client’s social media feed and never see a mention of their offer. There’s never an invitation to jump on board. A massively missed opportunity.
And here’s the thing: if you share your offer in a post and no one bites, it doesn’t mean it was ignored. It can take severalmentions before it finally clicks for the right person. Keep mentioning. Keep putting yourself out there. Results will follow.
Time required: 5 minutes
By following this simple daily content checklist, you'll keep your eye on the prize and ensure you're taking the necessary steps to establish and grow your online brand. And the best part? It only takes a few minutes each day.
So, why wait? A daily content checklist is a foolproof method to stay focused and enhance your online presence. By focusing on four key areas – publishing, engaging, building your list, and sharing your offer – you'll be on your way to constructing a robust and thriving online brand.
